What this IS about

Obligations are being made all over world to save guard the planet and its content, these commitments have mostly incited by the Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainability in the past showed up faintly as CSR, a nice to have, has now moved to a need to implement due to the critical state of our planet. From Government, NGO’s, to public and private institutions, as well as public and private corporations across fashion, CPG, tech, FMCG, health, energy, entertainment, automotive, none is exempt from the fight.

These commitments are only being made to create value propositions that boost their bottom line and their brand image, rarely for the good of people and the planet. They seldom set social goals to defend humanity, recognising and protecting each race or gender, and shielding all earth’s cultures. With their measly targets to preserve and restore earth’s natural resources or investments in innovation towards solutions for real impact, overtaken by their need to communicate every little milestone.

For too long the conversation has been one-sided, with the constant barrage of greenwashing, culture appropriation and social hijacking, lining the pockets of the 1%. With Echiché we get to hear from the other side, what a diverse younger generation feel about these commitments being made and actions thereafter.

WHAT WE DO

Sustainability is basically defined as meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own; this is where Echiché comes in. Echiché in the native Ibo language of Nigeria in Africa means ‘to reflect’, with serious thought or consideration, an image as seen in a mirror.

This platform aims to reflect the thoughts of the younger generation on the execution of these commitments being made by institutions, industries, from entertainment, to fashion, beauty, consumer packaged goods, tech, finance, healthcare, automotive, to government and non-government organisations. Are they meeting the needs of the present without compromising their future and is that still enough?

We will speak our minds, reflecting on those that do it well and call out those that are falling short in hopes of inciting real actions towards safeguarding people and planet. Our goal is to become a movement, a community known for driving conversation on sustainability, raising consciousness on social, environmental, economic, and cultural issues. Through the lenses of what’s sensible, and culturally relevant, challenging what is socially acceptable.
